Preparation of annual financial statements

Annual financial statements are compulsory. Making sure they also benefit you is our job.

Alongside ongoing bookkeeping, the preparation of annual financial statements is a major area of our services.

Every merchant is required by law to draw up, for the end of each financial year, a statement showing the relationship between their assets and liabilities (balance sheet), as well as a comparison of the expenses and income of the financial year (profit and loss account). The balance sheet and the profit and loss account together form the annual financial statements. Depending on the circumstances, notes to the financial statements and, where applicable, a management report are also required.

The balance sheet presents the assets of a business clearly and reflects its economic situation. For the merchant, it therefore forms an essential foundation for future business decisions. It likewise has an information function for external users of the balance sheet (banks, tax authorities, shareholders, etc.). Furthermore, the commercial balance sheet continues in many cases to be authoritative for the tax balance sheet (Maßgeblichkeit), is developed into it and forms the basis of the tax calculation.

Frequently asked questions about annual financial statements

Answers to the questions our clients ask us most often about annual financial statements.

What do annual financial statements include?

The balance sheet and the profit and loss account together form the annual financial statements. Depending on the circumstances, notes to the financial statements and, where applicable, a management report are also required.

What is the difference between the commercial and the tax balance sheet?

The commercial balance sheet presents your business's assets and reflects its economic situation, and therefore has an information function for external users of the balance sheet (banks, tax authorities, shareholders, etc.). It continues in many cases to be authoritative for the tax balance sheet (Maßgeblichkeit), is developed into it and forms the basis of the tax calculation.

We do our own bookkeeping. Will you still prepare the financial statements?

Yes. Ongoing bookkeeping and the preparation of the annual financial statements are two separate services; we build on your bookkeeping.
